Frequently Asked Questions
How much do you charge?
Like a lot of editors, I assess each project individually. When giving an estimate, I consider factors like the nature and length of your document, the type of editing required, and the anticipated time frame. In general, though, my rates are competitive and in line with the median editorial rates reported by the Editorial Freelancers Association. What format should my document be in? Most of my clients send me their documents in Microsoft Word or as a PDF. These formats best allow me to track my changes so you can see the edits I've suggested. This also gives you the control to accept or reject any of my suggestions. I occasionally work with Google Docs as well. What style guide do you use? I prefer to use the Chicago Manual of Style or the AP Stylebook when I edit, but I am open to using other guides. Do you edit documents that have been written using generative AI? I am an AI curmudgeon. I place high value on human creativity and critical thinking. Therefore, I do not currently accept AI-generated documents from clients, and I have no plans to do so in the future. |
